Windows Vista

Today we are hear to talk about a rather important subject; Microsoft Windows Vista.

Before I became a photographer and starting editing files on a mass scale, I used computers for fun. I would hop on the "PC" and play games, listen to music, or surf the...then exploding, world wide web. I rarely encountered problems at all.

Today is a little different. There are times when I am editing 1000's of photos at once, or editing some video to post on Cut Frame TV. For once, I NEED, a computer capable of keeping up, instead of WANT. Very big difference between the two.

So, a few months ago I went shopping for a new PC and laptop. I had heard all of the bad rumors about Vista, but refused to believe any of them. Every new computer now has Vista installed on it, so I had no choice but to go with the OS that came with the computer. So...

For reference, here are the specs of the PC;

AMD X2-Dual Core -(2) 2.6 ghz
400GB SATA
2 GB DDR2

...and here are the specs of the laptop...pretty much identical...

AMD Turion X2 Dual COre
160GB Sata
2GB DDR2

As you can tell, WAY past the minimum, or recommended specs to run the OS. I have to say, and I mean this with all of my heart...Windows Vista sucks is not ready for the public. There are waaaay to many problems.

My main gripe?

Why in the world will it burn a file to a CD, but the damn CD doesnt open anywhere else! For instance, today I burned a CD with 1 jpeg on it. After it was burned, I put it back into the computer just to make sure that it was there.

Ok...1 jpeg is on CD...now I take the CD to Kinkos to get something printed. They try on all 5 computers there, (running XP)...low and behold, no file on the disk. I was like...oh my god...shocked that my +$1000 PC cant even burn a damn CD!

VISTA CD's ARE ONLY READ BY VISTA!

Now, what really pisses me off is this; I get a call from a client, who says there is an empty folder with no photos on his CD!

Are you frikking kidding me?

Bottom line, this OS cannot be trusted by full time professional photographers! Now for the kicker....my laptop running Vista has encountered ZERO problems. Very interesting.

Its finally time for a Mac.
